COMMITMENT

In my recording studio in Houston,I had this quote that was posted on the wall. The quote is called "Commitment" and it goes like this.

"Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness.

Concerning all acts of initiative and creation, there is one elementary truth, the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves in!

Then all sorts of things occur to help one that would otherwise never have occurred!

A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one's favor all manner of unforeseen incidents and meetings which no man could have ever dreamed would have come his way.

I have learned a deep respect for one of Goethe's couplets, and that is:

"Whatever you can do, or dream you can do, begin it!

Boldness has genius, power and magic in it!""

On another note!

In the mid-eighties I owned a 24-track recording studio in Houston, TX specializing in music for radio and television advertising.  When I wasn't writing or producing commercials I'd rent my studio to artists and musicians who wanted to record their projects.

Although I've been in the music business for quite some time, I found out that some artists/musicians have huge egos and sometimes it got in the way of  creativity so I came up with a sign that I posted just before entering the recording area.

In the middle of it there was what looked like a basketball basket and above it was written:

"Before you enter in there, (an arrow pointing to the recording room)

leave your "ego" in here. (pointing to the basket)

You can pick it up on your way out!"

The sign ended up being a great piece of conversation and laughs and it seemed to work for I was able to record some fine projects and get great performances from the players. They understood the concept!
